Ingredients

  • 1 Egg
  • 200 ml Milk
  • 450 g Self-raising flour
  • 2 tbsp Caster sugar
  • 100 g Butter
  • 50 g Sultanas

Instructions

    Preheat the oven to 220C/200C Fan/Gas 7.

    In a large bowl, mix the flour and sugar.

    Rub in the butter until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.

    Stir in the sultanas, if using.

    Gradually add the milk to make a soft dough.

    Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 2cm thick.

    Cut out the scones with a round cutter and place on a baking tray.

    Brush the tops with beaten egg.

  9. 9

    Bake for 10-12 minutes, until risen and golden.

    Serve with jam and clotted cream.
