Golden Syrup Dumplings

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Milk
  • 1 1/2 cups Self-raising flour
  • 50 g Butter
  • 2 cups Water
  • 1 cup Brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup Golden syrup

Instructions

    For the dumplings, sift the flour into a bowl. Rub in the butter with your fingertips until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.

    Add the milk and mix with a knife to form a soft dough.

    For the syrup, combine the brown sugar, golden syrup, water and butter in a large saucepan. Bring to the boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes.

    Roll tablespoons of the dumpling dough into balls and gently drop into the simmering syrup.

    Cover and simmer for 15 minutes, without lifting the lid.

    Serve the dumplings with the syrup and a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
