Ingredients
- 1/2 teaspoon Salt and pepper to taste
- 3/4 cup Milk
- 2 cups Self-raising flour
- 1 tablespoon Butter

Preheat oven to 200°C. Grease a baking tray.

In a bowl, combine the flour and salt. Rub in the butter with your fingertips until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.

Make a well in the centre and add the milk. Mix with a knife to form a soft dough.

Turn out onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently until smooth.

Shape into a round loaf and place on the prepared tray. Score the top with a cross.

Bake for 20-25 minutes, until golden and the base sounds hollow when tapped.

Serve warm with butter and golden syrup.
